| Propose an Investigation : Coordinated Investigation Programmes (CIPs) will form the basis of the IHY scientific plan. The intention is to provide an open mechanism by which researchers can propose activities that require, or would benefit from, co-ordinated use of facilities. These can be space-based or ground-based instruments, observatories, or models. Find out how CIPs work, propose a CIP, and list the CIPs proposed so far. |
One of the aims of the IHY is to celebrate and preserve the history and achievements of the International Geophysical Year of 1957. One programme to support this aim is the "IGY Gold Club" which identifies participants from the first IGY (gold symbolizing the 50th anniversary). To join the Gold Club, you must meet three requirements:
| You must have been a participant in the first IGY. | |
| You must contribute an item of historical significance to the initiative. It can be a letter, a recollection, an article, a photograph, etc. | |
| You must be willing to have that item made publicly available to historians, librarians, and other people interested in investigating and preserving the history of geophysics. |
Gold Club members will be awarded an IGY Gold Anniversary certificate of recognition from the IUGG and a special commemorative IGY Gold lapel pin, issued solely to IGY Gold Club members. Given the important role the UK played in the IGY there will be many people in the UK who are eligible to join. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone you know for membership of the Gold Club the nomination form can be found on the main international IHY website.
Bringing heliophysics before the wider public is an important part of the IHY vision, just as was the case for IGY. A wide variety of activities and exhibits will be available in the UK for IHY. Click here for more details.
