There was an IHY UK Meeting on November 1st at Burlington House,
London. Presentations were given on activities planned in the UK for IHY
and there was discussion on bothe the scientific and public outreach
aspects of IHY.
As
part of the International Polar
Year (IPY),
The combined ICESTAR-IHY full proposal to IPY has been given final endorsement by IPY as accepted has been selected to lead a cluster of projects looking at geospace effects
in the polar regions. This activity is being carried out in partnership with
another proposal to IPY called ICESTAR.
A combined proposal drawing together 26 projects was prepared and was
conditionally endorsed by the IPY Committee as a full proposal in August
2005. Final endorsements, conditional on progress, are due by 1 March
2006.
The
2005 United Nations/ESA
Workshop on Basic Space Science will be held from 20 to 23 November 2005
at the United Arab Emirates University in El-Ain, UAE. This workshop will
focus on developing space science in developing nations, with a special emphasis
on the opportunities for IHY. We will be developing a plan to enhance participation
of developing nations for the IHY 2007 and beyond. The call for
participation is now closed and the final selection of participants will
soon be complete.
First
IHY European General Assembly - January 2006 which aims to present the status
of European activities for IHY and to stimulate further involvement from
